Anas Hasan Khattab was listed on 23 September 2014 pursuant to paragraphs 2 and 4 of resolution 2161 (2014) as being associated with Al-Qaida for “participating in the financing, planning, facilitating, preparing, or perpetrating of acts or activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf of, or in support of” and “otherwise supporting acts or activities of” Al-Nusrah Front for the People of the Levant (QDe.137).
Anas Hasan Khattab was the administrative amir of Al-Nusrah Front for the People of the Levant (QDe.137) as of early 2014. In late 2013, Khattab was a leader in Al-Nusrah Front and was the group’s overall administrative amir.
Khattab was also a member of Al-Nusrah Front’s shura council as of mid-2013. Also in mid-2013, Khattab chose three new bodyguards for Al-Nusrah Front overall leader Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani (QDi.317).
As of mid-2012, Khattab was involved in the formation of Al-Nusrah Front. He communicated periodically with Al-Qaida in Iraq (QDe.115) leadership to receive financial and material assistance and helped facilitate funding and weapons for Al-Nusrah Front.
